I tried to install Windows 7 in a virtual machine using Oracle Virtual Box by loading the iso from my external hard drive to the virtual machine and it wouldn't load. It just stalled and stayed a 0% for a good few minutes until I killed the process with System Monitor. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS and Virtual Box Version 5.0.6 r103037.

Depending on how much resources that you allocated it could increase the loading time for Win 7.

Dare I ask, but have you tried copying the ISO to internal storage and loading from there? Or, maybe the ISO itself is corrupt/bad?

I have ISOs and machines running off non-primary partitions, separate from where my OS is located. But I'm running Windows as host and Linux as guests - which is the recommended setup most of the time. Are you that limited on your internal storage?
