What would be the best CPU/MB info to look at for figuring virtual machine performance. I'm getting ready to upgrade my system and its main use is to run VirtualBox/VMWare virtual machines. I'm not looking to spend a ton of cash, but I do want to pick the best CPU and MB that I can afford. I see L3 cache and hyperthreadind are features other users mention. Im current running a 4 year old gaming rig and it is not cutting the mustard running VM. Im not going to be running a server so im not sure if I need a Xeon or an Opteron. I will be logging in remotely.

Thanks!

First, welcome to the VC sub-forum. Before myself, or anyone, can really help direct you we need to know the following:

1. what is the current specs of the system that isn't cutting it for you?
2. what are you planning on running in way of VMs?
3. any hardware you plan on reusing that we should take into consideration?
