Just curious what people think on this one.

Its about $3200 for:

AMD Turion 2.0Ghz
20.1" 1680x1050 LCD
2 Gig DDR2667
7950 GTX 512

I'm looking for a 19" - 20.1" screen since I do alot of 3DMax work. I'm using a IBM T60 now but the small screen is driving me nuts.

Price seems far more reasonable than Alienware and Dell. Thoughts?

If I understand things - there is no chipset for the Core 2 right now that does SLI which is why all these SLI laptops are AMD?

I think the upcoming Alienware is the first Core 2 SLI if I'm not mistaken. I'm not paying for that though.

First off, that is a horrible screen resolution for that size of a monitor, do not settle for anything but 1900x1200. Also, wait for the new intel chips to come out if you can, which will help you very nicely, unless of course you need it now.

I have a 22" desktop LCD at that resolution and its acceptable - especially when things are rendered in hardware. My 15.4" in the T60 is 1900x1200. Nice and crisp but way too small for 3D work in my opinion. Resolution isnt everything.

resolution does matter ...you will thank your self by getting something better.
Sager notebooks might be able to provide you with a good 19" for a reasonable price.
With vigor you are paying for the paint job..

Comparing apples to apples - I can only find 17"s in the Centrino line:

Sager and Vigor (Artorius)
17" 1920x1200
Centrino T7200
2 Gig RAM
GO 7950 GTX
100 GB 7200 HD

Sager $2214
Vigor $2619

And no paint job on the Vigor! So is it worth the extra $400? No.

Clearly the Vigor is a Clevo M570U and if you spec it out exactly on R&J:
$2239

What about service though? Can I trust Sager or R&J? I'm willing to pay a bit for peace of mind. How is Sager's service and warranties? R&J? Anyone with actual experience?

That's a Clevo FAQ but... WOW. Thats some serious info there! I think Clevo is on the top of my list now.

Thanks a ton for the link.

Clevo M590KE = Sager 5960
Clevo M570U = Sager 5760
Clevo M570U-A = Sager 5750
Clevo D900T = Sager 9890
Clevo D900K = Sager 9750
Clevo M660N = Sager 6630
Clevo M540N = Sager 5460
Clevo M620NC = Sager 6260 (White)
Clevo M621NC = Sager 6260 (Charcoal)

Clevo makes the laptops that Sager uses, at least some of them, but if you scroll down a bit of the page you will see the Sager section of that link.

Sager Warranty

That might answer some of your questions about Sager, and what they cover if there are problems.
~My friend just recently (maybe two months top by now) bought a Sager and he loves it a lot. He got one of the 17" laptops with a 7950, and a 2.0gHZ C2D, and he loves it a lot. I have seen it and it is very large, but that is comparing it to my 15.4" laptop so it is all in perspective.
