Viewsonic's new 4ms LCD monitors

I haven't seen a post or newsbit on this yet, so here you are.

Viewsonic just announced 2 new 4ms LCDs aimed at hardcore gamers.

19 inch VX924 (estimated MSRP $550)
17 inch VX724 (unknown price)

The 4ms response is grey-to-grey. Color response is about 5ms. Still, that is far and above WAY faster than anything else I have ever seen. And all this time I thought 12ms was great.

Theres no reason not to switch to LCD now, from CRT besides the price, good linkage.
 
I can think of many reasons to stick with CRT, but I can understand the sentiment if you're only a gamer.
 
We'll see how these things really fare. Response time is still very subjective. When they come out with a true 4ms LCD that's 8bit, I'll bite again.

I've been burned too many times on LCDs that ghosted simply way too much.
I can't believe I bought a 25ms 17" LCD for $1200 back in the day when they were new. The thing is more like 40ms color to color.

For the longest time on Tomshardware, a 20ms Hydis panel was faster than all the 12ms and 16ms displays out there.

ALso seems like the WORST time to actually buy an LCD.

Just a few month ago 12ms was the rave. ALL of a sudden it was 8ms and now 4ms.

Now if Dell would make a 24" widescreen 4ms screen and charge $800, that would be ohhh so sweet.

Samsung just announced their 8ms and that does not even have a release date. Viewsonic's 4ms will be out in May! WOW!

I like viewsonic products and I think this will be a great one. I'm just surprised more manufacturers are not moving toward widescreens.
 
It may be 4ms gray to gray but just like every other LCD it will probably be up around 16ms - 20ms at times. The Hyundai L90D+ is 8ms but sometimes its as much as 25ms.
 
Bah, Im very happy with my new L90D+, I won't replace it until OLED or SED are totally mainstream years down the raod.
 
Hmm, I'm still curious what do those "grey to grey" specs really mean. Many manufacturers are announcing 4ms, 6ms and 8ms "grey to grey" response time monitors but with no explanation of how is that measured and what is the monitor's black to white response time. Strange.
 
If only it'd be an 8 bit display.. I'm still waiting for a fast 8 bit panel before I make the jump to LCD..
 
I need a new Viewsonic LCD. Any word on them making it in a 20" size? I need that 1600 x 1200 resolution.
 
Actually, this 4ms no more than overdrive technology. If we include glitches, that appears when interpolating 262K colours(yes, all fast TNs has only 262K), plus glitches that will appear with overdrive... This will be fast, but _BUGGY_ screen.

Go, and buy 16ms S-IPS. It will be faster than any 8ms TN... Plus TRUE 16.7 colours. 4ms is only a myth.

How do you know, or where does it say that the screen is not 8-bit?
 
Judging by how the pdf file doesn't say what kind of panel it uses I think it would be safe to say that it's a TN panel, there really isn't much else it could be at that price and compared to what all other monitors are right now.
 
You can tell it's a TN panel by looking at the specified viewing angles. They are never wider than 160 degrees and that value is a marketing trick anyway.
 
The 16ms IPS panel IS slower than the TN panels... but a much better technology because it's 8-bit and has nicer viewing angles.

These 4ms viewsonics are definately geared towards gamers, because they are 6-bit TN panels looking at the specs.
 
S-IPS has most stable pixel response time. TN can have 8ms in very little graph area. So, for example, TN is faster, but only in rare conditions(colour switches). S-IPS is almost faster, in most conditions.
