I bought this monitor, but i can return it in 7 days..is these problems normal ?

- backlight bleeding, but when i move my head, it becomes normal :) ?
- too shiny and bright. I mean is this a specialty of this monitor ? it's not about brightness and contrast its just too shiny, like i'm looking to a light bulb and it kills my eyes ?
- when i look at my taskbar, from top of the monitor, text are going fuzzy.. ?

all this problems are normal ? or all these problems are something else ?

1. Its the panel itself, iv'e stated this earlier in this thread.

2. Shiny? It has a antiglare screen. Probably just you

3. Using DVI or VGA? Tried using ClearText? Got the refresh rate set correcty at native res?

I'm using 1680x1050 at 60hz. Wasn't Refresh rate important for CRT ?
I'm using DVI. and it doesn't seem that it support more than 60hz. there is option for that...

No, an LCD at that resolution will not go up higher than 60hz. Some will do 75 at 1280x1024, but not necessary on an lcd. Its a different technology that has a different mindset.

So you don't need the increased Refresh rate.

Aside from my DVI connection dying completely, I'm amazed at its clarity, both with d-sub and DVI. If you're having clarity problems, you might want to give ViewSonic a call.

I'm using it on d-sub right now as I wait for them to process my RMA, with no ClearType, and it's almost perfect. There's a bit of a halo effect around text in some areas with d-sub, but that's it.

I've called ViewSonic twice now, and I got to a live person pretty quickly both times, and they were helpful and nice. Sure was a welcome change from Dell... :p

Good luck!

I've seen this monitor at two different stores; Fry's and Best Buy. I was not impressed with it's blurry text and 'screen door' display covering. I don't understand the popularity for this monitor, but that's why you have to see it for yourself.

Because I do graphics design AND gaming, my best choice is the NEC 20" widescreen. But I am still searching.

When it comes to LCD's don't make a decision based on stats and other user hyperbole alone.

Good post and i completely agree. I also found the Viewsonic monitor only "average" in display quality and price/performance. I since settled for an Acer AL2051W. It uses the same panel as the Viewsonic model but avoids the terrible coating with the screendoor effect (it has a similar glass cover as the NEC). That provided me with the advantages of the Viewsonic and the NEC in one (low price - good picture). It's still not the NEC but that's probably as close as i can get without robbing a bank.

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't see what you guys are seeing. I've never seen a display with sharper text, and I don't see the "screen door" effect you describe. Maybe there are some settings that are off a bit? Perhaps it's related to the fact that I'm in a room with lots of ambient light, and I'm not sitting right on top of the monitor. I would have bought a second one if I didn't want a built in TV tuner. The NEC 20WMGX² should be delivered sometime today. But that will be in a room with very low ambient light. (I'm hoping the reflective screen won't bother me too much!) I'll also point out that I've heard reports of color banding with this display... so obviously not every product is perfect. (Crosses fingers) I guess I'll find out soon!

As for refresh rates over 60 Hz, it's really a moot point because you don't need a higher refresh rate. Technically, Windows limits all LCDs to 60 Hz regardless of what they may be capable of actually doing. You can turn this off if you really want to, but if you get it too high you might actually damage your display. So let's face it, if your system will run a game at native resolution, and still put out more than 60 fps, maybe you should turn on some more features rather than force your refresh rate higher. At the same time this Viewsonic reports to the drivers that it is capable of 75 Hz in DVI mode.

deb0, trust me (or don't ;) .) Judging a monitor at a Best Buy or Fry's when it's connected via D-Sub only, sharing a splitter, not in its native resolution, and overly used is a big mistake on your part.

I'm a graphics and webdesigner, and I game heavily as well. This monitor (aside from the DVI problem) has been nothing but extremely impressive. True, I haven't seen $700+ LCDs, but I've seen quite a few, and I certainly have some great CRTs to compare my VX2025wm to. And honestly, it's the best monitor I've ever seen.

Now, feel free to dispute whether it IS the best in its pricepoint. Differing opinions are fine. However, I fully know what the screendoor effect is and looks like, and the 2025 just plainly doesn't suffer it. The only complaint I have is that the anti-glare coating adds a bit of an (as others have said) 'icy' look to things. While it doesn't bother me personally, I can understand how some could see it as a problem.

Entirely true. However, when you go to view monitors for yourself, the last thing you want to do is judge it by its performance in a store. If I'd done that, I never would have purchased any monitors!

This was the problem that caused me to return mine. I just wasn't up for spending the money on a screen that would continue to annoy me with the x-pattern backlight bleeding. The worst part, when the monitor is just turned on it toys with you by not having any bleeding. Then when after it has been on for awhile and has warmed up the backlight bleeding jumps in.

Um...that's NOT "backlight bleeding" at all. If you move your POV it changes, and when you have backlight bleeding it's allways there! I have a Samsung 192MP with real backlight bleeding. And the effect is nothing like what can be observed on this Viewsonic. My guess is that it's related to the "anti-glare" coating. At this moment, if I switch to a wallpaper with a solid black background I don't see this effect. However, I know that as soon as I turn on any lights behind me (the only light source atm is the window behind the display - and I have the blinds closed) I might see this reappear. The only other factor I can think of is that I've dropped both the brightness and contrast to a value of "60".

The only other thing I might point out is that no two examples of a product are "exactly alike". Manufacturing being what it is the variations are small but they obviously can add up. So just like all other computer parts; "your millage may vary".

I just hope the NEC, that should be delivered today, is defect free! I would have bought a second VX2025wm but I wanted the NEC's built in TV tuner. It will replace the Samsung 192MP, that's just over a year old (... the one with backlight bleeding).

how is it not backlight bleeding? the backlight is bleeding through, which is confirmed by it not being their as the monitor lights up as the lights are not fully bright yet. If I move my point of view it is still there, it may not be as pronounced because when I change my point of view the angle I'm looking at the monitor also changes (increases or decreases) causing the screen to become washed out which gives the bleeding disappearing, but it is still there, just less defined.
