Viewsonic VX2025wm - Can you use component video for it without messing up DVI?

Because I used a VGA to Component adapter cable, and shortly afterwards, my DVI output stopped working and now I have to send it in to Viewsonic to fix it for me. But I wanted to hook up my Wii to it for widescreen Zelda, and I was wondering what if using the VGA port on the monitor with the DVI port causes problems. Can I only use one or the other or something? The last thing I want is a repeat of this whole mess!
