Viewsonic new 19" 16ms VX910

I just got the viewsonic vx910 - 19" - 16ms - dvi/analog.

Quick Impressions:

It's a keeper. I played farcry, battle vietnam, nba live, unreal 2k4 demo... and no ghosting. It truely is a 16ms panel.
Colors are awesome. No screendoor like the 2001fp. Only thing it doesn't have is 1600x1200. But for now the image quality is more important for me.
When a 1600x1200 panel comes out with 16ms and lower and no screendoor and less than $800 I'll take a look.

I was not impressed with the VX910. I checked the VX910 and the VP171S out side by side and I prefered the VP171S. I have a program that I keep on my thumb drive called Show Me the Color!. It allows me to test for dead pixels and other things. One of the tests is a grey scale color gradient going left to right, dark to light. On the VX910 you could see the separation between the grades, it totally not smoot. On the VP171S it was a pretty smooth transition from one grade to the next. I just got my VP171S and am loving the hell out of it.

I believe it's the same TN+film panel used in the Philips 190S5CS...

Everyone has there own opinions I guess. It does look good to me. Quicktime movies and pics look really good. The vp171s is a better panel and sharper ... but for a 19" that doesn't ghost and has dvi this does the job very well.

who cares? You're off topic, this is about a 19" monitor(s)....of course there are better 17"s out there if one were to scour the 17"s...but it's beside the point. some people aren't willing to view 17", like me, comin' from a 21 CRT.

Can you compare it to other models out now, or do you have any experience with other models, e.g., the 193P Samsung? I can't find any reviews of this model, otherwise I am considering it.

Hows the brightness? That seems a little low compared to Samsung at 800 :1, heh, but that can be decieving i want more info! :D

I notice this is listed at compusa which means I could finance it which would be cool. I'm interested even more now. :) After 100 dollar mail in rebate price is 699.

I also tried the 193p and I returned it because it did ghost. But the colors, brightness, contrast were much better on the 193p... also the viewing angles were a lot better on the 193p.

thanks for your honesty. :)

The more I *shop*, the more confused I get
The ViewSonic VX910 sounds really good, but I won't buy it because it only has a 1 year warranty.
The Samsung 193P has a 3 year warranty, but it ghosts, and it's price is not too much less than the 2001fp, which suffers with the screendoor effect. :(

I guess I'll just have to wait until someone (ViewSonic, Samsung, BenQ, ect...) gets it right...

Hello,

I am thinking about ordering this monitor (VX910), however the specifications are inconsistent on the Viewsonic Australia web site where it states 25ms in the official spec sheet, but 16ms on the summary page and when comparing different models. I rang Viewsonic and the engineering spec says 16ms, their roadmap spec says 25ms!

Can someone please confirm that it is definately 16ms (tr+tf) and that this is specified either on the actual box or in the manual?

Also, the viewing angles. In one place I saw it specified 140/140, in another I saw 176/176. I was told the engineering spec says 160/160. Does anyone know the reality?

Also, I was looking at this compared to the Philips 190S5. The specs (or one version of them) look similar but the Philips only has VGA in with no DVI, anyone compared them and have an opinion as to whether the VX910 is worth the extra money?

And lastly, does anyone know if it is 16.2 million colours or 16.7 million? The Philips site states 16.7 million for its monitor, but Viewsonic do not say.

I believe that 16.2 million is the refresh rate hack that manufacturers use to get to 12ms, but I was not sure about 16ms.

The new viewsonic VP912s/b 19 inch 12ms probably has this hack. It is 700:1 and 400 cd/m2, probably go blind with that one!

Thanks,

Mark.

I had 193p for a while and I would not say that it was ghosting but rather blurring. I guess it was worst with Far Cry. It was really irritating playing it on 193p. Blurring was most noticable moving form horizonatally from one side to another. Other games like Painkiller, Battlefield 1942, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Need For Speed Underground were very acceptable on 193p. But 193p stands out in terms of quality of picture. There is no another LCD that can compare to it. Period. I've read review where was written that 193p ghosts much less with analog connection. I have no tried it but if it is true then I would be very happy. I think that only very, very demanding games would not accept ghosting on 193p. After all even 12ms LCDs do ghost and 193p ghosts not that much more.

Well, I thought that my box specified 16ms, however the only place I can find a response time spec is on the ViewSonic web site: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx910/

The same site specifies a 140/140 viewing angle.

Sadly, both the manual and the box are useless in terms of specs that matter. Neither response time or viewing angle are mentioned on the box. However when I bought this unit @ CompUSA, their ad specified 16ms.

I'm afraid I haven't been much help, however I can say I haven't noticed any ghosting, and the picture is fantastic. Unfortunately nobody carried the 193P (which I was actually shopping for) in my area. Having said that, my last two monitors have been ViewSonics, and I am very happy with this monitor, (and frankly its' better looking than the Samsung, although that shouldn't make a difference) and along with the $100 rebate, I think I scored a good deal...now, when my wife finds out....I'd doomed!

Gu3...

Hello,

Well I bought this monitor (VX910) sight unseen and all I can say is that I am absolutely astonished at just how fantastic it is. Backing up what was mentioned by another owner, the colours, brightness and contrast are absolutely superb. I have played Pro Evo Soccer 3, UTK4 and Far Cry with absolutely no blurring or ghosting at all through DVI and I am usually fairly sensitive to these things. The 16ms panel is truly amazing.

Another thing that has amazed me is that I was expecting the 640x480 performance to be very poor. Boy, was I wrong. I have the XBox plugged in through the X2-VGA adapter into the D-Sub port and the scaling artifacts are minimal. I cannot detect any blurring, just some definition loss.

A point of strangeness though. When I move my eyes quickly around the screen I can see some dots or a mini grid like effect that is not there when I look straight ahead. I have used other LCD monitors in the past and have never noticed this before. It really does not detract from anything, but it is a bit strange.

Maybe I am just easily pleased, but I have to say that I really was expecting alot of this monitor and it has delivered everything I was hoping for and has still managed to surprise me. It is so good even my wife felt the purchase could *perhaps* be justfied

Regards,

Mark.

I think the max. resolution of these LCD's are far too low....if i were to get a 17 inch I need 1600x1200....more for a 19 inch LCD

I wouldn't tolerate 1280x1024 max. out of a 21 inch CRT, and the same goes for a 19 inch LCD. I will check out this LCD next time i go to best buy though :)

I been searching around, and i have not found any 19" LCD's that have higher then 1280x1024.Who makes one?I am in the same boat where i feel 19" is big enough for me,but all this talk about 1600x1200 is making me think i must get a 20' or larger to get that resolution.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought the 193P over the VX910. The major deciding factors for selecting the Samsung over the Viewsonic were: The 193P came with a DVI cable, wall mount kit, and a 3 year warranty, the Viewsonic does not come with a DVI cable, wall mount kit, and only has a 1 year warranty. Every other Viewsonic LCD has a 3 year warranty, but not the VX910...wonder why

I have not noticed any ghosting or blurring in America's Army or Battlefield Vietnam. (it maybe there, but to my untrained eyes, I don't see it) At 1280 x 1024 the font size is a lot smaller then I'm used to but it's acceptable. I considered the 20" Dell, but I'm glad I got a 19". For my eyes, I don't think I would like the 1600 x 1200...

I just bought the 20.1" VP201B, it's 16ms, and I love it. There can't be much difference between the 20 & the 19, so I'm sure it will be a sweet monitor. The native resolution on my VP201B is 1600x1200 tho.
