Hello all,
I am having an issue playing/viewing games over pcanywhere 11.51 - 12.02
my pc anywhere application works fine for everything: avi, flv, quicktime, asf, desktop administration etc etc , but not for games.

If i roll back to pcanywhere host 10.5.3, it fixes this issue, however its causing other problems on the pc, so i am hoping i can find an alternate solution. I've lowered all video settings and played with the "color scale" under preferences/remote operation, but does not seem to help

What happens is that the game does not want to render properly or fast enough. Everything looks fine, then i launch the game and i see this:

In order to see the game screen data refreshing i have to sweep the mouse over the page to see the most recent image information, but other then that it will not render over pc anywhere 11.51 or 12.02 host.
has anyone else experienced this or can help shed some light on this issue i would really appreciate it.
thank you

The bandwidth needed is pretty high, more than your internet can probably handle.

hmm , thanks for the feedback, i suppose that's possible, but my internet connection was slower in the past and pc anywhere with games worked fine. (low fps of course but i could chat with guildies without issue) I'm running a pretty stabile cable modem connection at 15mb down and 2mb upstream...

I pretty closely monitor my internet connection most of the time and am runing optimally, when i look at my bandwidth usage when over pcanywhere, its a drop in the bucket when compared to my line speeds up or down, either way it seems i have plenty of bandwidth both on the remote side and also host side. my modem frequencies are within range, firewall up or down, router in place or not i'm seeing this degradation in game video only.

again, if i rollback to pc anywhere host 10.5.3 this problem is solved (so i do not believe this to be bandwidth problem) however i'm having other software issues when i roll back so i prefer to find an alternate solution if there is one.

surely there must be someone out there that plays either WOW or SWG or Guildwars or Eve etc etc that occaisionally remote administer's their pc so they can speak to guildies from work or some similar scenario ? If so does this happen to you as well?
if anyone can help provide some insight on this i would greatly appreciate the effort,

thank you for your time

You simply dont have the bandwidth for this.

Lets put it this way, a video file at 1024x768 is going to be HUGE. You need a ton of bandwidth to stream that real time. Which is basically what you are doing.

When you are "monitoring" your bandwidth usage over your remote program, most of the time not alot of things are changing on the monitor, so not a lot of data gets sent back. however, on a game, most of the time the entire screen is changing so massive bandwidth must be used. Something on the line of a 100mbit upstream would be what you would need. I know i capped my 100mbit network when i was using VNC to administer my linux box and i tried to watch a movie for the hell of it.

If this is in fact a bandwidth issue, then I guess it must be associated with the pc anywhere 11.53 -12.00 host app itself because prior to upgrading my host app to 11.53 i had half the bandwidth i do currently.
i can have umpteen things streaming on my host pc while running a torrent client/ seeding files, and still be able to view them all without too much problem and when i roll back the host app, i can view ANY video games included (off the top of my head) roughly 2-3fps ....

but also, i think this is a problem with how pc anywhere 12 renders or something along those lines, becuase in the past at least the GAME screen would refresh vertically top to bottom (while i'm on remote viewing), not that fast or great but at least 2-3fps even on a game that was playing in windowed mode at 1024x768 , i can see my desktop and any other video's running divx or avi or streams etc etc.

What i am thinking is that if this is a bandwidth issue, then wouldn't my entire pc anywhere connection be lagging ? and not just the game video ? I can type in game and do anything on my pc without any stalls or delay while the game is running

Try LogMeIn, it's free (the free version anyways) and works great in my recent experience...

The only thing I can think of, and I HAVE had problems with this, is that directX windows are tricky for some reason, maybe it's a form of copy protection or something, who knows... I know quicktime was like that with taking screenshots (the pasted picture in photoshop had strange "see-through" capabilities).... so things like this have been done in the past, either on purpose or mistake, I really don't know
