Like in this recent thread, people look for a *VA screen if they want maximum black depth. What angles do you typically have to stay within to get the deep black effect? I'm wondering how close you can get to something like a 24" without seeing glow at the edges.

It varies between panel. C-PVA has almost no off-axis light leakage. It does however have a narrower than IPS viewing angle effect which will cause issues if you sit too close.

In my case, with a now-returned Eizo S2243W S-PVA: Perpendicular +/- 20 degrees before a brightening was clearly noticeable. Optimal viewing distance was about 3 feet to prevent whitening of corners.
But you should also be aware that it depends on the content you are viewing. Eyes are not sensitive to small fluctuations in the black level, when a contrastry - i.e. bright - color is shown at the screen in the same region.

The C-PVA panels don't have the whitening corner problems while S-PVA does.

Same goes with A-MVA, had to be about 3ft back to avoid the whiter corners with the new BenQ EW2420
