Considering the newest generation of Nvidia or ATi cards, which company do you think will prove to be the most popular choice?

ATI obviously, unless Nvidia can manage to squeeze out a round of price cuts and/or a new series of midrange cards.

Nvidia will remain top choice for most people I think, But I Believe that ATI hit the nail on the head with its release of the 4800 series and alot of people are going to take notice to there price tag, loyalist or not, you cant refuse a good deal. A big thank you in my book for coming out with card that has a unbeatable price/performance ratio. Hopefully this is a turning point for graphics card manufacturing, I would hope that Nvidia takes notes from ATI on this one.

I think Nvidia will still be the most popular, they have built up a reputation and most people you talk to will still say Nvidia is the best. ATi obviously has much better price/perf with the 4800 series, but that doesn't necessarily = more cards sold. I remember when AMD was wiping the floor with the Athlon64s, yet most people still had Intel CPUs.

The 4800 series should definitely improve AMD/ATIs reputation though, and hopefully they will claw back some market share (if we are left with Intel/Nvidia only, we'll be paying $1000 for cards/CPUs and there will be very slow advancement of technology)

ATi must be more popular due to the incredible HD4k series, or the world has gone mad with morons...

I voted ATi, but I also made an assumption (yeah, I know, don't say it) that you meant which company will be the most popular in terms of sales of new products.

I needed a video card for my secondary system because the grandson is staying with us a little over the summer, and needed something for him to use. Snagged up a 4850 and put my 8800GT into the secondary box.

But then again I haven't been at all happy with nVidia drivers and have just been waiting for a competitive ATi card so I could go back.

For the midrange, I could see a lot of promising sells for the boys in Red with their 4800 series, they hit the value market pretty well, NVIDIA doesn't seem to care for the midrange with their GTX260/280 series this time around, and rather, would lower prices on their older technology to sell remaining stock on their 8800GTs/9600GTs/9800GTXs to compete against ATI's 4800 cards.

For those with Intel chipsets, CrossFire HD4850s seem like a promising upgrade. :)

AMD is getting it's head handed on both sides. However with the VC they have a nice ray of hope and if they play their cards right it can help them out a lot. The CPU side is still looking bad but who knows what can happen. Chances are they will always be in business unless another CPU company comes out... Intel would NOT let them go kaput. :p
