Looking for the best videocard for playing World of Warcraft, for around $100 or less. less is better...
CPU is an intel 6300 I think
2 gigs ram
Windows XP
Thanks in advance for any help

EDIT: resolution is 1600 x 1200, current card is an 8400gs. I did have a 9500gt 1gb, but I fried it....

Nvidia - Used 8800GT on the cheap end, GTS250 on the high end.
ATI - 4850 cheap, used 4870 high. (4870 will be significantly faster than the 250)

You really should post your screen res as well..

pick up a XFX 4850 512mb for $109 or you can get the xfx 4850 1gb for $119 so for $10 more you get an extra 512mb. and double lifetime warranty.

What are you running now? Video cards don't play as much of a role as the cpu for wow. My wife's rig is an e6300 @ 3ghz with a 9600gso and its performance is pretty identical to the rig in my sig. We saw a big jump in fps when we overclocked her cpu a bit.

I think Nvidia cards run better than ATI cards

not too sure though since no one ever benches WoW

i think ati has a better picture then nvidia but thats me. aa+af the 4850 will pull ahead because from my understanding when aa+af is turn the nvidia lose's some fps. unless i am wrong. where the ati does not.

This is true but you can take it a step further with ATI and get free AA by using the Edge Detect AA which goes up to 24x @_@ Seeing as WoW isn't a shader heavy game all that shader power in the HD 4xxx series goes to waste unless you put it to work with ATI's new AA :D

wow 24x O.O thats crazy. then i can say i would go with the xfx 4850 1gb for $119 it is a awesome deal.

At the resolution you intend to play you're going to get similar FPS from almost any midrange card in that game - low or high. HD 4850 and GTS 250 aren't going to be too much different from an HD 4870 or GTX 260. If you want to stay at $100, go with an HD 4850. There are dozens of them for $99.
