Is anyone else annoyed by the *abyssmal* quality of videocard fans?

So I just built a new system - Shuttle SN95G5 and it really is quiet...or *was* quiet until 1 day ago when the videocard fan started making noises - after a few days of normal use.

It's not the first time this happens, either:
Geforce256 DDR: Grinding noises for a few minutes after starting
Radeon 64MB ViVo: No problems
Voodoo5 5500: No problems
Hercules Ti500: Made really loud grinding/mechanical noises on startup+for a few minutes after that would slowly fade away
Radeon 9700: Ditto
Radeon X800XT: Sporadic "clicking" noises immediately after startup and when running 3D games (and fan speeds up) - at first I thought it was a harddrive but it definitely is the videocard fan.

I mean we have GPU's with hundreds of millions of transistors capable of almost-photoreal rendering but videocard manufacturers still use barbie-windmill toys for cooling the videocards?! If you're going to spend millions on R&D why not spend $10 on a decent stock fan?

Should I try to lube the fan or something to make it quiet? Or is it possible to buy a suitable replacement fan somewhere?
