Don't know if anyone has seen this, but Anandtech has an update on Nvidia and ATI availability from when they talked to vendors at CES. These are the card manufacturers, so hopefully they will be a little more accurate.

NVIDIA's PCIe 6800 series will still be limited in availability for the foreseeable future, we were even told by one manufacturer that the availability problem wouldn't be resolved until the 2nd half of this year.

i don't think i've ever seen retail availability so bad before for either camp

'04 was horrible, and it's leaking into '05
 
Great.. I feel like kicking myself cuz i missed the chance to get a BFG 6800Gt PCIe. :(

Brent got any PCIe 6800Gt's or Ultras laying around :p

I'm just curious but....WHAT THE HELL TAKES THEM SO LONG TO PRODUCE A DAMN VIDEO CARD!!!

Why dont they build some more freaking fabs or hire some more workers so that we dont have to wait forever to buy something that was released 6 years ago.

I just dont understand why it takes so long for hardware to come to market after its announced and already been sent out for review.
 
I think that the Taiwanese manufacturers don't believe there is a big enough market for PCIe videocards yet to ramp up their manufacturing. ATI is kind of pushing PCIe by making their new GPUs available in PCIe only until March. It sucks, because I'm planning on building a new computer and I am not going to pay $600 for a new videocard. Friggin retailers...
 
Boy And to think of not being able to get one long time ago cuz I had no money, Now When I have the money its just not available..

Although it'd never happen, I'd like for ATI and NVIDIA both to come out and say they're going penalize resellers who gouge for cards in limited availability, especially when the markup is 100% of the freaking MSRP (and yes, I understand that if people wouldn't buy them, they likely wouldn't gouge the prices).

Maybe if we all start leaving negative feedback on places like Ressellerratings for price gougeing then maybe they will stop lol. Doubtful but its something to think about. It would be nice to see Newegg's rating spike way down thanks to a bunch of negative votes.

Me three. I wanted a gainward 6800gt GS but by the time I had the cash, it was out of stock and GainwardUSA is no longer selling cards in the US. :(

I found a eVGA but its backordered, so... I'm keeping my backorder avtive.
 
LoL I bet they will announce, next gen cards before i even have the Nv40.... :rolleyes:
 
Well, this may be a wakeup call to ATi and nVidia that they simply cannot continue to throw transistors at the problem. They are asking these manufacturers to make chips with 160 million plus transistors. That is a lot of transistors, and if the manufacturers can't maintain sufficient yields, it's time to take a new approach.
 
Couple this with the fact that no non-SLI nForce4 board (at least my preferred brands) are available, and the opportune upgrade turns into a long process.
 
This is dissapointing since i just ordered my A8N SLI board. I was hoping for the end of the month regarding pcie 6800 ultras or even GT's at this point.
 
Muahhahaha I have company on my lonesome boat haha, Well Good News If its true I just spoke to a salesman at Chumbo.com He said they should have PCIe 6800 Gt's available for Order in a month from today :rolleyes: And they should have BFG 6800 Ultra's Also around the same time... :eek:

Two things are happening here.

First the yields of the high-end GPUs is low. (like the yield on high-end CPUs) is low. All that stuff about DDR3 holding them back was BS.

Second, the companies are more interested in selling to the OEMs (read that as Dell), than they are to retail. The OEMs will buy all the cards they can upfront, that's hard money in the pocket, quick.

BTW, I just bought an AGP BFG 6800 GT and I love mine. I'm not going to trasnit to PCI-E until Nvidia starts producing native PCI-E cards, as opposed to the bridge cards they are producing now (2H'05).
 
I'm glad I got lucky and found a 6800gt PCIe before they were all gone. Now at least I can play everything I need to well enough now, until I can find another one down the road to SLI.

The bridge makes no difference in performance. The benches show it. So what difference does it make?

According to the inquirer,
Luckily we heard from several sources that the first batch of NV45 based 6800 Ultra PCIe card is scheduled for end of the January. You can imagine our excitement when we heard that company can actually ship a chip announced nine months ago.

We are not sure about the numbers that Nvidia can possibly ship but many Nvidia partners were keen to tell us that they might have some cards by the end of the month. We don’t think those cards will break shelves on the shop near by but you should be able to get some at least from etail web stores.
