Video Torture Test 2010: Recommendations?

Howdy,

I'm getting a new GTX 460 and before I send in the rebate (requiring the UPC to be cut), I want to make sure the card is rock-solid. While I don't anticipate any problems, I want to be sure.

Consequently, for a non-gamer like me, what would you recommend for a "set and forget" torture test to be run for 24 hours or less?

I dont know about 24 hours, but you can stress test its stability and cooler to the fullest with Furmark

this. probably the best one out there. and I hate to say it but crysis also good for testing your OC.

Yes, use Furmark and enable Xtreme Burning Mode. That will crank the temps.

However, that won't stress video memory. I don't know how to do that outside of BFBC2.

MSI Kombustor is pretty good, it's based on Furmark but it won't fry your card like Furmark can if you leave it unattended. You have to download it in combination with MSI Afterburner to get the latest version, although you don't have to install Afterburner if you don't want to (it's a great monitoring/overclocking piece of software based on Riva Tuner which is fairly idiot proof though, so if I were you I would install it to check it out anyway). You don't have to have an MSI card for it to work either:

My first 4870 was bad. I tested with Furmark and it didn't detect any issues.
Run 3dmark in loop mode. This will test core and memory. Furmark just heats up your card to the point where its been known to damage it.

IMO this is the best option,detects artifacts very fast.
