video studdering recently - codec issue?

Need some advice,
Running vista mce, playing blu-ray rips through media center and through media player classic. I used to have no problems playing videos, but recently (I believe after installing quicktime) a few of my larger sized .mkv's are studdering durring intense scenes.
My e4500 at 2.6ghz does not even hit 70% core usage on either core so I know its not this. My 2GB crucial ballistix don't go above 50% usage either durring this time. This makes me believe its a codec issue.
I'm using the CCCPack alongside AC3filter, nothing else. I've uninstalled/reinstalled them, reinstalled video drivers(8600GT OC, i'm using november driver 163), etc..
I haven't yet uninstalled quicktime, which I will try, but would like to be able to watch .mov's on this machine as well. I've also searched for codec cleaners to completely wipe my machine but haven't had much luck.
Anyone have a couple quick pointers?

Also sorry if this is in the wrong section, I just liked that it was htpc specific

Well, you're in the right subforum, but I'm not an expert on codecs. I'm sure someone else can chime in here and help out.

Update the codec with the new version of FFDshow. CCCP just packs a bunch of different codecs together but does not get updated often, although the last one was from 1/08. Get the FFDshow from this week and it will update the codecs and you can override anything that Quicktime may have done. If you chose all the default stuff, quicktime may have switched the default decoders to their own stuff which is crap.

You can try disabling the AC3filter as well but many, many people use this without problems, including myself.

Disabled ac3filter, didnt do the trick. Installed latest ffdshow tryout 2-15-08 and it seems to work! I remember using the tryouts before will excellent success.
Re-enabled ac3filter and all still is well, audio/video glory.
Thank you guys, hopefully this thread helps out some other frustrated people.

YW, the newest version of CoreAVC and FFDshow auto-fixes so many HD playback issues, that's my default initial answer to all HD playback questions :)

Double check which filters are being used during playback; grab the CCCP Insurgent, do a test render, and paste the results here; perhaps something else has taken over decoding for AVC/AC3/DTS when you installed the new QT.
