video sound problem.

Hi, i have a camora and i imported some video files using my dvd. i can play everything fine on windows media player and i can hear the sound to. when i want to edit it with windows movie maker and try to import it, it said that i need a different codec for it to play. but when i use my dvd and take video of my camora with no sound then put it on windows media player it works but has no sound. so what kinda codec should i get or what should i do about this
