I wasn't sure if this was the correct place to post a video question, but I couldn't find anywhere else. Sorry if it is the wrong place.

I have a video that is 512x288. I watched the video on both a 19inch monitor and 23 inch monitor. Why is the video width greater on the 19 inch? Shouldn't the size of the video stay the same regardless of the monitor size? I am confused on this. I am viewing the video with windows media player.

Use media player classic and use the numpad arrow keys to change the video size to suit.

Because the 23" LCD monitor has more pixels. Thus, if you are viewing a video (or anything) that has a resolution of 512x288 it will look smaller on the monitor as the resolution increases. If the physical size of the monitor was to increase proportionally with the increase in pixels, then the video will be about the same size because the size of the pixel itself is larger.

Very, very simplistic example, going from a 24" to 30" monitor means going from 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 resolution. That is basically x2 the resolution, but the size of the monitor only increased 6". To put it very simply, if you wanted to watch a 512x288 video on a monitor with 2560x1600 resolution, yet maintain the viewing size of a 24" LCD, then the monitor will need to about 48" (some math calcs will actually be necessary to determine the exact size of this hypothetical monitor).
