im offered a job at a store to install a computer to record video from a security camera that now records to a vcr.i need to know how much space it takes gig wise to record for 24 hrs.i need to plan how big a hard drive or drives to put in a computer. thanks all.

What format does the device store the video in? MPEG-2, MPEG-4, etc?

dont know for sure id be hoking it into a low quality recording setup in a convience store and all i can say the video quality isnt too good.id say off hand it would be mpeg 2.

Do you have to provide the recording system, or just the computer? If you take a look at the software, it'll probably mention suggested space.

Anything recent is likely to use mpeg-4 as the storage format. The DVR software I am most familiar with stores several days of motion-activated video in 40 gigs or so on a medium quality setting.
