Video Playback Issue After Overclock

Hey, first overclock and my setup is:

E8400
P5N-D
9800GT

Now, I left my ram at stock (through manual settings) and pcie at 100 (which is to say overclocked neither or so I believe) and changed voltages to those recommended by http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/305177-asus-p5n-d-750i-guide.html to get 4ghz which is:

Vcore 1.39375v
NB 1.40v
HT 1.40v
SB 1.50v

and I set the quadpumped FSB to 1800 for 4.05ghz. Afterwards I tested small ffts 12 hours straight in each of prime95 and orthos and did the hour test in occt and all of them passed without error. However, when I try to playback hd video there are now bits where the screen will go blocky on me or where sound and video get unsynced where this was not occuring before (except for that short period where I had vista installed, but I trashed vista deeming it not worth looking into). Can anyone tell me what the culprit is here? Am I pushing too far with my oc despite numerous reports of stability?

After the oc I checked with cpu-z and speedfan and each say my vcore voltage tops out at 1.36v (go p5n-d vdroop) in real time so the vcore is certainly set as high as I can put it. I've a zalman 9900 on the cpu so the reported temp tops out at 58 (yeah, temp reports are funny on these wolfdales, but it was topping out at 71 on stock cooler and playing fine then).

Any help would be appreciated.


EDIT: Also, in case it's relevent, using ffdshow with media player classic home cinema from cccp to playback the video. Is messing up even on 720p. OS is Win7.

try using MPC-HC since it has hardware accel built into it.. seem's to me this isnt either a gfx card issue.. be it MPC and the CCCP crap that no one should be using anyways.. or its a drivers issue.. what drivers are you using on your 9800GT?

the only other thing it could be is that you pushed the northbridge to far and there isnt enough voltage going to it.. but 1.4v seems like it should be enough..
 
Ok, discovered windows provided drivers for 9800GT were a month out of date so those have been updated (new driver is 8.17.11.9562) and cccp has been lifted and replaced with MPC-HC. Immediately noticeable that sound and video are still out of sync, but if video stabilizes with disappearance of blocks I guess it's time to assume it all just a coincidence and move the question to another forum.

EDIT: Nope, video still goofed with the block things, though checking the cpu loads the video decoding has definitely been offloaded to the video card. What should my course of action be at this point?

Easy way to determine if this is an OC related problem: Go back to stock speeds. If the issues persists, then it is not an OC issue.
 
Did this on a stock cooler? Can you pass the Intel Burn in test V2.3 on max? I found I could pass 8 hours of prime and fail the intel test until I gave it a bit more juice.
 
Ok, just wanted to make sure no blocks at stock (it's a somewhat random occurence) before replying and this is indeed the case. So the blocks appearing in video are a symptom of the overclock (by blocks I mean some blocks on the screen stick when there is movement until the next instance of the screen really changing). The voice and video are a symptom of the encode though as I've found them synced just fine on other videos.

Passed five passes of Intel Burn Test V2.3 on max.

So, what's the next move? More juice to the NB or SB? I'm not sure what the max is on those... Or should I just back off? It seems a shame considering the cpu appears rock solid and within both spec voltage and spec temps.
 
Well, after a lot of playing with raising voltages and loosening ram timings and watching video for issues in playback, I discovered the highest frequency I can get the processor is 3.6ghz without the blocking effect happening. Raising voltage does not create a higher stable frequency in this regard and as I said before temp has not been an issue at any point.

volts now are:
vcore: 1.31250
nb: 1.36
ht: 1.36
sb: 1.5

I have yet to toy with lowering those more to see if it remains stable at lower power, suggestions would be appreciated in this regard. Also, it is an E0 revision of the chip, so it seems odd that this is the highest stable point that can be reached. Is it a symptom of the nforce chipset? There seems to be some contempt for em out on the internet. I also extensively played with settings to isolate ram out of equation, but it's Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 if the info proves useful.
