Up until now, I have been using Windows Movie Maker. Most of my clips were coming out my Sony HD Handycam. They come out in AVCHD format I think and range from 250-900gb. After editing in WMM, I output them to .WMV and they are under 500mb for Youtube.

This is all great, but now I have Sony Movie Studio 10. Why in the Hell are they rendering my video clips to around 80GB! for a 5min video clip? Something weird is going on. I know I record in 1080i, but where did all the compression go. I need smaller files to upload into Youtube. Any suggestions on how to reduce output size? I see the MPEG-2 option is about GB, still really big.

What is the audio compression? Is it an uncompressed wave file? That sounds like what could be happening.
