I am hoping the wise Guru's of the Hard Forums can help me. I have a BFG GTX2801GOC video card. I started having artifacts and hard lockups on my screen. I removed and clean up all drivers, and reinstalled the latest drivers. Still having issues, I called BFG and they belived that it sounded like a bad card. Sent it to them, but due to stock issues, it could be 30 days or more before I get the card back.
So in the meantime, I used a 7900GTX I had laying around, but it was not cutting it. So I picked up a HIS HD4870 Until I got my 280 back. Put in the 4870, after about 10 min, I start getting vertical stripes made up of multicolored squares. Each square was about 1mm and the stripes were about an inch wide.
So at this point, I decided to reformat, Reinstalled Windows 7 x64 and drivers, everything looks good. Works fine for a day, and then this morning, get the vertical lines back.
So the question is, did I just happen to get a bad HD4870? (it was used) or two cards having corruption and hard locks? The 280 never did the vertical stripes, there were just random squares on the screen. Any ideas? Any place else to look? Motherboard maybe?
My System:
ASUS ROG Striker II NSE
Giel DDR3 Ram (4x2gig) total 8 gigs
Sound Blaster X-fi extreme gamer ed.
WD velciraptor 150gig
Seagate 7200 rpm SATA 750 gig
Silverstone Raptor 2 case
