I had an X1900XT. Things were going swimmingly until Thursday when it started crashing regurally when using 3D. Specifically Catalyst would come up with VPU Recover, then the 3D would become very corrupted.
Long story short, I sent this card back to MSI. I bought an 8800GTS from a local store today. I installed it and reinstalled Vista (it needed it anyway). It is now doing somewhat of the same thing, except the video driver will fail and then be reloaded, fail over and over, but sometimes it will keep working.
This is entered into the Event Viewer if it crashes:

I have a 700 watt thermaltake power supply, Asus P5n32-E SLI (680i), running OCZ Reaper HTC at 1066 with a Core2Duo e6300 not overclocked (although it was originally, I decided for testing purposes to un-overclock for the past few days).
Also, I found that by turning the fan from 50% to 100% duty cycle in RivaTuner and underclocking it a bit (it's factory overclocked) it is more stable.
Any idea what is going on?
