The standard VGA and DVI port are on board with a special multimedia hookup for the breakout box included with this card. The breakout box includes the connections for S-video in and out and composite in and out. Unfortunately, additional extension cables are not included if you don’t have any of your own on hand

what cables do i need?

btw hi everyone. my first post.

thankyou

It depends what you are trying to do/ where you are import/exporting the video. I would just take the box to Radio Shack and match up the connections.

One thing I noticed: The S-video connection on the far left does not resemble your basic multimedia S connection to me (the one on the right is standard), so don't just go buying an S-video cable and assume it will work.

mmm ok. i'm looking to cap some movies from my vcr. i don't have a radio shack in my area. i live in the UK.

Well, radio shack is known for carrying vast amounts of inexpensive cables for computers, stereos, etc. Any place in the UK similar would work...

I don't know what kind of encoding/formats exist over there, but if you don't have an S-VHS VCR with s-video then just concern yourself with the basic composite (a.k.a. RCA) input cables and it will be that easy.

Okay, so no S-video. For video in, get a basic RCA cable (composite) and plug it in to the video out on the VCR, and the white video in on the box. I assume you have the appropriate capture software already that came with the card/box.

thanks for that. really saved me a lot of time and bugging everyone i know.

i'll find out some good electronics stores in my local area. failing that i'll have a look round maplin.

Yep, that'll work. The 2 RCA's from VCR audio out (white and red) to the 3.5 input plug in your sound card . The remaining RCA on the end will go from the video (yellow) on the VCR to the capture box video input (white).
