Since the search is disabled and there prob has been many subjects like this here is the question. What processor should I consider for a video editing machine, best value for your buck. Pen4, Barton, or Athlon64? By the way, why is the seach disabled?

As far as a video editing machine a Pentium 4 will make the best for the best price.

Hyperthreading is a nice bonus on the Pentium 4's that helps out with multitasking very well. Dual Channel is optimized to its full potential on Intel boards also. AMD boards only give around a 3% performance increase in bandwidth with dual channel enabled.

I would buy a 2.4c-3.0c depending on the kind of speed you need and whether or not you would like to overclock this machine.
 
What would you suggest for the best Pentium 4 mb out there, or a decent overclocker. Best Price performance ratio?
 
Um maybe an Abit IS7 or Asus P4P800 for the best price/performance and an Abit IC7-Max3 or Asus P4C800-E Deluxe for best performance.
 
the search is disabled b/c it causes too much bandwith strain on the servers, and the vBulliten staff and [H]ard|Forum staff can't figure out how to fix it yet, and my vote for the P4 as well.
 
Go for a P4 especially if the software you are using supports Hyper Threading. You get a real nice speed boost from that.
 
Okay what about a p4 2.6c vs a Athlon64 3000+. I have read some of the reviews where they pitted a A64 3200+ vs a P4 3.2 ghz and the Athlon64 held its own.

My understanding is that the P4 will still do a better job in the video editing arena than the A64. I believe an overclocked 2.6 or a straight out 3.0 will run better than an A64 in the video area. Here is one review I have found that shows the performance scores.

I have been looking around myself and will probably wait unti lthe new Prescott chips from Intel come out and have been benchmarked before I decide on anything. Just my couple of cents worth.

I would have to admit that currently if your a gamer you would get SLIGHTLY better performance from running an A64 rig over a P4 but in video editing its no competition. Pentium 4 hands down is the best for applications and video editing.
 
The video editing rig I use at the studio here in town is a dual Xeon 2.4ghz, with 2gb of ram, and we do it all on that machine, so if you can afford it, dual xeons = pwn.
