Been playing with a Dell XPS gen 2 laptop (really great system, though it pains me to admit it). Try to run an HD (1080p) WMV9 clip from the Windows media website and it doesnt run too great. The system has a 2.13GHz P M CPU which you would think would have just enough juice. Anyway, the GeForce Go 6800 card is supposed to have a fully working 2D engine with support for WMV9 decode so what gives? I tried going into options in Windows Media Player (10) and switch off the overlay, but that only only made it worse. How can I switch on the 2d decode assist? ANy thoughts?
 
You can't.

It's a broken "feature" on the 6800 cards which Nvidia is hoping people will forget was ever mentioned since they seem to have no intention of trying to make it work.
 
I found using VLC Media Player made HD clips much better than on WMP9 or 10.

Ummm, I thought it was "fixed" on NV41 and NV42....

The 6800go is a NV41M, which is not "broken". Only the desktop NV40 (and bridged NV45) has that problem. :rolleyes:

caboosemoose: What version of the video driver are you using? Are you trying to play the video on battery power? If so, you might have to adjust the video power options.
 
Trying to play the video on mians power - using the driver as shipped from Dell, have they already released an update?
 
with the latest incarnation of Nvidia drivers my 1080p proformance was greatly improved(30% less cpu and no droped frames). im am using the 3d guru set... they have the drivers for the laptops as well...so far nvidia is just as good as ever the newer drivers gave me a nice boost :D Edit i forgot i have an agp 6800gt 410.1100....
