This started recently, I've been getting video corruption. Started in games or after screensaver was on, its now hitting me on the desktop.

card is a 9800 pro, its been in the machine for over a year, probably closer to two...
temps seem to be fine, its been warming up lately, but not by enough to effect this.
Cat 5.2 drivers (never did it before updating), with the CC(C?). I think I had the 5.1 no CC(?) before.

A long time ago I had problems with sparkles against a black background when alt DVI mode and/or (dont remember) reduce DVI frequency for high res were checked. I've tried all 4 possibilities again and no joy.

I cant think of anything that changed between it not doing it and doing it. I dont overclock at all either. Ideas?

Id install older drivers ( havent payed attention to ati since the 4.8 or 4.9 Cataylsts) .. i say try 5.1 or 5
 
Yeah, either it's a driver problem, or your card is taking the shit on you. It IS possible. Best of luck! :)
 
well dropping back to the 5.1 no CCC got rid of it on the desktop, but tribes2 is still giving me massive corruption. This is bad!
Its an OEM card, is that a 1 year warrentee or just the 1 month?

in tribes2 (the game I've been playing lately), OGL gets me massive corruption. D3D is slow (normal for T2) with only occasional spots of sparkles.
The fan IS spinning (can feel the air with my hand).

This really sucks cause I was planning on selling the rig for a laptop fairly soon. :mad:
any more ideas? Any way to check if its really the card?
 
hmm there could be other possibilities but it most likely is your powersupply. if you can check it in another system.

i had the same problems and closer inspection my fans werent moving! after cleaning it out it was a lot better but now i have a 6800gt. i think its too late for my vantec 520w tho i still get artifacts and freezing in games but no longer in desktop unless i run prime95 i start seeing vertical lines. getting a new psu in this week.
 
I ahve a Sapphire radeon 9800 pro and also started experiencing artifacts in all my games after the installation of 5.2 cats. direct-x diagnostic on direct 3d shows the cube spinning extremely fast....so you are not alone....something is not right but it is not a hardware issue.
 
I too have a Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB, and I've had the exact same issues you're showing in your screenshots, and describing in your posts. I will try to roll back to older drivers (I have the latest drivers installed right now) and see if that does the trick. I've never had a problem with corruption until the other day when my system locked up with the "dirty Nintendo cartridge" screen and I had to reboot. It actually happened before I installed the latest drivers, but installing the latest drivers didn't stop it from happening. :confused:

I checked the fan, and it's spinning. The card appears to be fine cosmetically.

The computer is fairly new, and I built it myself. The PSU is 420W, and it came with my Aspire Xpider Turbo case.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

edit: I don't think it has anything to do with drivers since the problem didn't occur directly after installing drivers. The problem seems to have come from nowhere, and remains unsolved. I am really in the dark about this one, because the card seems to be fine on the surface, and it has the most recent drivers, and I bought it new in September 2004, and have never had a problem like this before. Thanks.

edit2: MBM 5 is telling me my 3.3v rail on my PSU is averaging 2.83v if that has anything to do with it.
 
maybe, for some weird reason, the drivers permanently messed up the card??? :confused:
 
a little bit off-topic maybe but i have a 9200 that i put into a new system(yes i will upgrade it soon) and when i tun it on i get absolutely nothing on screen. works in an older comp and 15a on the 12v rail should support that kind of a card but i dont know what to do...
 
What are the voltages that you guys are having? Are they wobbling all over the place, or anything like that?
