I have all the computer I need so I'm not looking to build a high performing gaming machine. I already have one.

What I want to do is build a very basic computer to play my high definition Canon *.MTF video files. I have discovered that Windows media player and also a Linux application will play these files raw out of my camera in high definition without me having to convert them to another format. The video/sound quality is perfect on my PC monitor.

I want to dedicate a small onboard video/sound motherboard with the necessary HDMI outputs to connect to my high def 55" television. I'm going to put it in my entertainment center using wireless mouse and keyboard. A mini case would work nicely.

Will the HDMI output on a motherboard send both video and sound to the TV? Or will I have to use a seperate audio cable to the TV?

Does anyone see any problems I may run into or have a better suggestion for what I want to do?

How about a suggestion on what motherboard would work well. How much memory is needed...etc.
My budget is flexible.

What ever it takes to make the box work. MB, CPU, RAM, PS, Case..mini preferred.

I currently have an E8500 dual core processor, 8 Gigs RAM. As for the CPU usage...I don't have a clue

I know its not the latest hardware, but it's held up to whatever I put it through so far.

Hmm, do you happen to need a new PC? And therefore reuse your "old" PC as the "video computer"? I ask because that $500 can get you a PC that's actually faster than your current CPU and an option for more/cheaper RAM.

In fact, the cheapest PC and smallest PC that I can recommend is actually a tad faster than your E8500:

So I guess I need a 300 watt psu instead of the 200 watt that comes with the case?

I added a separate PSU because the PSU that comes with that case is pretty crappy. If it was a good 200W PSU, that would have been enough for that system. But it's a crappy 200W which means that it end up doing harm to the PC. Hence the inclusion of a separate Seasonic PSU. That Seasonic is cheapest good quality PSU that I could find that would fit that case.
