video cards in alienware pc's.

i'm contemplating getting an alienware and was just curious...being that their video cards are all the mass produced non retail jobs do these cards run as good as their retail brethren?

the sales person i talked to today said that all of the vc's that come in their comps come directly from ATI and Nvidia...this just turns me off for some reason...i'm so close to just breaking down and attempting to build...it's in my blood i think...i want a bunch of pretty boxes filled with tech...yeah.
 
its worth it to get help if you need help building your own,what u will spend for alienware,u can have 3 computers,seriously its good to learn etc...u will def be glad u did.
 
I would say build it yourself unless of course you want that cool alienware case that looks like a power ranger.
 
I third that, build it yourself, once you get the hang of it you'll never let anyone else touch your computers again.
 
They will run just as well as the retail version. Alienware gets all their parts OEM which is the same thing as retail but w/o the fancy box and pictures. I would say go ahead and build your own because you gain some very crucial knowledge in the process.It's also alot of fun and could be the start of a new hobby, or could even jump start you into a computer based career. But buying a prebuilt system is fine aswell, it just might run you a few extra bucks.

Heres an EXAMPLE of an OEM card. Look at the pic and you will see its just the card and the installation CD.

If you build your own rig look into buying OEM parts cause it can save you a few dollars here in there if you are on a tight budget. Newegg.com sells OEM as well as a few other on-line retailers.

if you don't feel like building it ur self and want a good gaming pc and don't want to spend ass loads of money like ur some kind of Hollywood Star, buy whole computer from ABS, newegg.com, and Dell XPS
 
NVIDIA does not make cards so they have to be getting them from another company like MSI, BFG, Evga, etc.

The cards may not be bad. I heard dell used to (and or still does) get motherboards from ASUS. (not all of them, most the crap ones they made in-house).

You could always call on the exact model you want to order and see if they can tell you the manufacturer name.
 
damn...thanks for all of the replys. i know for sure that i would/will enjoy building a pc from scratch. it's cool to have a site like this with peeps willing to help too. i was just talking to a friend on the phone about it and it looks like i might just go ahead and take the diy trip. look forward to using ya'll like my hos....j/k! :p
 
They are good, two years ago got an alienware for my cousin, was just to lazy to build him one, but anyways, it came with an ati9800 was a made by ATi card, I think for the most part they will get very decent cards to put into thier system, but just call em up and ask, they will tell you who made the card.

But building it yourself you will get a better deal
