Currently, my system is as follows -

Mobile 2400+ running at 2288MHz (3300+ speeds iirc)
1GB Patriot PC4000 (2x512)
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe <---- I have the bad revision where the northbridge voltage is locked... 208 is max stable FSB)
ATi 9700 non-pro (It sucks at overclocking also. The core can scream... but the memory can only take a 15MHz OC max)

Basically, my question is this: Would a 6800gt suffice well enough to stave off a year or so upgrade? Only recently (Oblivion, heh) have I really ran into problems running most games. I know the 6800gt is well enough to run anything on the market, but do you think my system would be able to give the video card what it wants? Money is and isn't an issue - I like to be thrifty and careful in my purchases... but not cheap. I know it isn't possible to gaurantee anything, but some suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks.

That 6800gt will run great with that cpu. I upgraded my fx5900se to an x800xt in my barton 2500+ system. Huge improvement. Pretty much same upgrade your looking at. I picked up my agp x800xt used for $200 about 6 months ago.

Cool, thanks guys.

I don't want to build a new rig until Vista and DX10 - just feels to me like I would be throwing away cash if I did.
