I've got an Evga 6800ultra.

I just built this computer and didn't get around going to test any games until now.

None will work.

Hl2 for example, when I get into the main menu it's just like a slideshow, literally it'll play a split second (with sound) and then freeze up.

In other games it's just like......it's not connected or somtehing? the screen gets all garbled/wavy and stuff.

I'm running it off a new HD (which is E: ), but I have my old Hard drive as a slave(C: ), I didn't reformat that drive and it had my old video card drivers, etc installed on it. could that be a problem?

I'm running a DFI Lanparty UT NF3 motherboard
Antec 550w psu (so it's got enough power).

I did the Direct X tests for Direct Draw and Direct 3d, both worked just fine.

Temps are fine.

53-54'ish usually.

My case is pretty well cooled.

Was your old video card made by ati? Leaving ati drivers on a system when upgrading to a nvidia card or viseversa is a real bad idea.

WinXP Pro w/ sp1 (still gotta d/l sp2).

What's weird is I tried another game and it worked (painkiller)....

Hmm, I'm gonna try some more out and see what's up.

I suggest a reformat. Sure, only a new video card would seem like it wouldn't be enough to necessitate the Nuclear Option, but at least you know that if it doesn't work there's something wrong with the hardware.

Also something that might be of help, after testing this out more it seems that the main things are "bright" and volumetric things.

Things like lights/fire, plus things like Smoke/fog cause the textures to start jumping around.

I quickly alt-tabbed during these to check my temperature, and it seems when those thins are on screen it causes my temp to jump up to 80' from the normal 65 or so, when I get out of the game, or even just look away from the light/fog and things, it temp falls VERY quickly back down to 60 something.

What could be making the card do this?

I'm about to update my nforce drivers and delete these video card driver and then install the 76.x ones. I just found it very strange that seeing lights/etc would make the card jump up 15 degrees and how on earth it can go down 15 degree's in literally just a few seconds, the fan is working and everything....

Did you connect the extra molex connector?

I had that problem with my current card, and I keep forgetting to reconnect it.

I used the splitter cable it came with, and connected that directly to the main line from my antec psu (like they said to do on the evga boards).

Is there a certain connection the monitor should be on? (since there's two )

I put it on the Bottom connection.
