I'm currently using a ATI brand Radeon 9600XT which I bought from Best Buy way back in September of last year for around 175 bucks. (Employee discount.) As you can guess, I was one of the suckers that bought this thinking I'd get HL2 for free that month. Anyways, I feel my card may be getting alittle dated, since my Doom3 frames are less than par sometimes, and I'm getting ready to play the next gen games like Doom3 mods (Quake 4 if you will), and the hopefully soon to be released HL2.
I'm not looking to play those games on BEST settings, but I'm hoping I can at least make them look decent with a nice framerate.
So, what I'm getting at is... do I think I should upgrade now or wait for a bit for the new line (X800, X700, etc) to come out and see how that unfolds? My price range is about 180 to 230 (250 most). I'm an ATI lover, so I don't think I'd settle for anything Nvidia again. (Although the 'virgin' 6800 does interest me.) Does anyone have any suggestions on this?
Games I'll most likely be playing is Doom3, HL2, UT2004, EQ2 and all next gen games. (Just reiterating the previous point)
