Hi all

I'd like to know if an upgrade from a ATI All In Wonder 9700 Pro to a ATI Radeon X 800 Pro would give me better performance with my system, or do I need to upgrade Mobo & CPU as well.

All help provided is greatly appreciated.

System Specs are as follows

Pentium 4 3.06 GHz 533 FSB
Gigabyte GA-8INXP Intel E7205
2 x Corsair XMS2700 PC-2700 512MB DDR SDRAM
2 x Western Digital Caviar 80GB Special Edition OEM In Raid 0
Enermax EG651P-VE FM24P EPS12V 550W PSU

I have heard claims of up to 50% performance boost from 9800 series to x800 series. So I would imagine it would be even better from 9700 to x800. No experience with x800 to back that up though.

You would seem some huge gains, I'm guessing over 100% from a 9700. Your rig should be ok, though you would need to upgrade as per your post were you to consider anything with more clout than the X800Pro, i.e. the X800XT / 6800 Ultra.
