So.. I can finally upgrade my 5770 to something better. Well almost.. waiting on my money yet.. Anyways, been looking and comparing. The best bang for buck seems to be AMD with the price/performance ratio. Budget is around 130, no more then 150. Cards I have looked into are the Radeon R7 260x,265. Radeon R9 270, GTX 750 Ti. My current mobo only has PCI-E x 16 2.0 slots though so I know it will hamper performance a tad. I did see a user on here that has R9 270x for sale for 130 used but.. it was used for mining. Never bought used and kind of iffy on it. So far I been leaning at the R7 265. Thoughts?

The PSU will be upgraded to a Corsair CX600 after I buy the GPU, depending on how much left over I have.

Buying the GPU will probably happen no longer then a month away. I assume sooner.

EDIT: Games I play, forgot to mention.. PayDay 2, LoadOut, World of Tanks, Terraria. There are more but forgot the names.

Specs: GA-880GA-UD3H Rev 2.0
Phenom II X4 955 BE
Gskill DDR3 1333 4gb
Intel V series 40gb SSD
OCZ Fataility 550w PSU

I would suggest scouring over the hotdeals section or maybe slickdeals.net to see if you can score a deal. I have seen 750ti's or 270's for around $100 recently so keep an eye out and you might get a good deal. For example here

would pick a different PSU, the CX600 is not a bad psu but it is not a great one at least price/performance

I been going over slickdeals like crazy. Have been considering the 750ti also if I can snag one for closer to 100. As for the PSU, what did you have in mind? Altogether I only have 200 to work with. Maybe 220 if I sell a HDD.

Other question is.. what about buying used? Radeon R9 270x for 130 and still has the warranty left, kind of grabbing me as well but never bought used before and scared to get burned.

A used 270x for $130 is easily as good as you'll get. Minus that out of $200-220 and you have some money to get a pretty decent PSU.

Also, since the 270x design is relatively new you can be sure it should have some life left in it even if it was used for mining previously. As a current miner myself and knowing how miners work, we tend to keep our cards up and running in tip top shape within normal thermal specs.

Edit: Here's the benchmarks of 270x vs 750 Ti. As you can see, the 270x is far better suited for 1080p gaming than the 750Ti.

Honestly playing at 1080p isn't really important to me as being able to play a game smooth. I also don't use AA much if at all. If I can get the money sooner then later then I will snag the 270x long as the warranty will transfer. It being XFX, pretty sure it will.

Well made my decision. Thank you for all the help folks.

I had an HD 5770 in my signature PC back in 2010. I upgraded to an HD 5870 in 2012. Now I am on an GTX 760 in 2014.

If you must buy new there is still a good deal on a HD 6970. Its a couple generations back but its a nice upgrade from your HD 5770.
If buying used then like others noted above, the R9 270x can be found in the low 100s.

Good Luck. Fond memories of the 5770

Wow very similar upgrade path and time line for me too.

If you are willing to go used, I've seen 7970's going for $150-$170 in FS/FT. That would be an awesome upgrade.

With that being said, I'm on a 6870 myself and would really like to upgrade mostly for metro. I love AA/AF which I have to keep off completely on metro with my 6870.

Yeah for you and the OP, the 79xx cards are extremely well priced these days. $120 for a 7950 or $150 for a 7970 are very common on eBay right now. Personally I just snagged a 7970 for just $120 last week mostly because the buyer is in my town so no one had to pay for shipping. But there's countless deals out there

Alright thanks for the links and info guys. Just unfortunately waiting on my other money now. Figured it would be here sooner then later but issues. Still buying a card asap though.

Just a thought the r9 300 series are coming out, but just a thought
best bet would be going used for the 280x (140-150, brand new like XFX DD heatsink goes for $210) happy hunting
