I am currently running a 4870. I just got BF3 and can pretty much only play on low settings and low res. I am thinking about upgrading to either a 7750 or maybe even a 6870. I was wondering which is the better deal. I only have $100 to spend.

earlier this year I bought a 7750 for a Diablo 3 machine I was building out of old school skt939 parts, but wasn't impressed with the performance for gaming, on the other hand it would make one hell of an HTPC card, popular opinion seems to suggest 7770 as the current next gen bare minimum for gaming and from first hand experience I whole heartily agree and that's backed by benchmarks/reviews I've read on many reputable tech sites including [H]. In the end after learning the [H]ard way, I ended up returning it after I found a used XFX 6850BE on here for a little less than what I paid for the 7750 new at the time and even after upgrading to a 2500k/Z68, the 6850 made a world of difference, especially when the 12.8 Catalyst drivers came out and the Cap3 profiles were just the icing on the cake for a few of my games just based on a seat of the pants performance comparison.

I continuously lurk the for sale section daily and I've seen a few 6850/6870 currently on sale for under $100 here, an $85 hd6850 and $95 for 6870 are the lowest if I recall, would jump all over that and did a few months ago if $100 was my budget.

*the 6800 series use the same drivers as the new gen 7000 series btw

Update

I ended up buying a 6870 on craigslist. Put it in and tried all high on 1680x1050. Smooth even if some people thought an AMD quadcore and 4gb ram couldn't take it. It certainly can.
