How do i check my Video Card's Temperature? I have reaon to believe it might be overheating.

I have a sapphire 9800pro
 
I dont think the 9800Pros have the built in diode that the 9800XT and after have unless your 9800Pro was an underclocked 9800XT.
 
isnt there a peice of software i can get to check its temp? i can check the temp for my motherboard and cpu with Sandra 2004 and BIOS.
 
You should be able to the temp through ATI-tool, but remember to draw 20C away from the temp ATI-tool reports.
 
Only if the card has a buit-in diode that gets the temp. The Radeons 9800XT and up have a diode built into the chip that is where them programs get them from.

I'm the oppopsite, i have the r360 core on my Sapphire 9800Pro (256MB version) flashed to the XT bios, and it has the temp sensor in the video props.

Yep, you have to take the HSF off to see what core you have.
 
I guess ATI Tool doesnt even show temperature stuff if your card doesnt have the chip because I see nothing temp related anywhere in the program for my 9800Pro. And alterting the memory timing stuff to lower numbers actaully resulted in slower performance in D3. I dont recommend messing the the CAS Latency setting or the 1st and 3rd memory timings.

i just tried it out on my 9800pro u cant get temp if theres now temp measure eg the temp fiode. i got mine at stable clock of 423.36/363.54 the prog took the speeds up to 432/378 respectively i dropped them down by 10 to prevent any hangs or articles prolly could push it higher but the card got really fussy with the mem aroun 378 so im not really trying owt.
 
u should invest in some more if your oc'ing it the mem chips throw of a tremendous amount of heat even at stock
 
the r350 is the true 9800pro core the original one i believe it was the one used for the 9700? anyway those with r360 cores are the cores from the 9800xt cards that have been clocked down.
the only bad thing is if u have a pro with infineon mem chips, useless mem very difficult to get good ocong they arnt very good for it the samsung used on the ati made cards are good ones.
the only draw back having the r350 core is no temp diode to make it easier to see what effect your ocing is having on the card heat wise.
 
if u look at the pic i posted ull see those mem sinks ure looking at are the ones im using i think they are fine i wasnt too keen on the thermal paste but i was having problems with the cooler at the time. it was difficult to get the mem sinks to stay on esp when they are on the underside of the card. i scraped off the thermal tape and used some arctic thermal paste to keep them on. i think they are good probably would be better if it wasnt a slab of copper maybe with better fins for heat dissapation. from what i know copper absorbs hear better but aluminium radiates heat better.

(forgive any spelling mistakes i use a keyboard that practically has no letters on the keys lol)
