Hey guys, I'm not up to date with video cards and need some suggestions. My current HTPC is running fine, but I'd like to add a video card for some gaming from Steam. I'm not expecting to run high end graphics from the latest games or expect to play the latest games on this machine. It'll be playing a lot of older games, games from sales, and possibly LOL type of games if I feel like it.

My budget is $200 max, but ideally would like to spend around $150.

  • Intel Core i3-3225 Dual-Core Processor 3.3 GHz 3 MB Cache LGA 1155
  • Gigabyte Intel Z77 LGA 1155 Dual UEFI BIOS ATX Motherboard GA-Z77-DS3H
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Corsair 520w PSU (got this around 2007 I think, but still running strong).

Do you require a single-slot card? If not the obvious choice is the GTX 750 or GTX 750 Ti.

I'll second the 750ti if you want a GPU that won't suck the capacity out of your PSU that performs very well, has 2GB VRAM, and fits into your budget.

If you had more wiggle room with max price, I'd suggest the GTX 760, but those are still around $250.

^ Very nice choice! I've used MSI cards exclusively since the 8800GT, then a 275, and now the 570. Never had a single nuance or problem with any of them.

Do not get less than 2GB of vram. The 750ti's I've read are very good for the money.

That specific card has a three to five-week waiting period from Amazon.

Did you order it from there? If so, cancel the order.

Why? You know of a better deal? I don't mind the wait seeing that Amazon has the best deal for that specific model.

TigerDirect had the same card for $159.99 without a rebate... I think miners are buying these in bulk now and driving up prices...

Do you need that particular model?

My main concern is that you're waiting up to five weeks for a video card you could buy elsewhere (albeit as a different brand/model) right now.

I didn't see the specific model that I mentioned on their site. Plus I would get taxed anyways, so not really worth it to me unless I must have it and it's the only one left.

Honestly, it's because I read a review for that particular one and like the looks. lol

I forgot all about the miners. Ugh. I canceled my MSI one and bought the EVGA one with a single fan. Should work out nicely. Wanted to get the Gigabyte one from Newegg, but knowing them I'll get my stuff 1 week later with shoprunner.
