video card stack-ranking

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I've gotten a little frustrated searching for it.

I'd like to find a stack-rank of video cards ... including pretty old ones.

Why? I often find an extra video card after upgrading (or repariting, or moving, or replacing) a machine. I can figure out the model number and manufacturer, but I don't always have a good idea of the performance of the card. Maybe it would be an upgrade for a machine I use more often, or better off in a different machine somewhere else.

I found this post , which is what I want... but numbers would be nice (eg, how much faster or better?) and it's not very current.

Tom's Hardware has a similar list with some numbers, but it's got even less entries than the first one.

Does anyone keep a historical stack-rank of video card benchmarks?

It's difficult to get a comprehensive one because the old video cards cant run many modern apps, and the new videocards would kill the older apps so much that it would be CPU dependant.

Yes, I did !!!

At Tom's site, VGA Charts II: Mainstream Systems was the most useful. But they include some of the newer cards, but none of the older cards.

I don't understand your point. Comparisons between older cards and other older cards are still valid, no matter what newer cards are capable of doing.

I pulled this from another forum i used to frequent. It was last updated at the 9800xt. Perhaps we could get all of the 6x00 series and x800 series added.

//Edit: I'm measuring performance with each card according to how they stand up to their sister products and competitor's products in the highest DirectX class the component is designed to work in.

IE, if the card supports DX9 & DX8, it's weighted against all other DX9 cards only.

Thanks for the helpful response, patriot71. Adding the newest wave of cards would make that just perfect.

Do you think that the slowest DirectX 8.0 cards are still faster than the fastest DirectX 7.0 cards?
