Video Card Recommendation

eh if you get the heat into the air and out of the case your not going to feel it. if it stays on the card it will eventually make every component of the case hot by means of conduction, and then the whole area around the case will be hot.

Assuming the room is ventilated - the OP has stated he is concerned about heat because his isn't.

Even in a ventilated room, heat can be an issue.

I have window fans in two of the windows in the computer room, and it's ~63F out.

Even with these fans on full blast, the room goes up to the high 80s after a few hour gaming session...

Indeed, I bought a portable A/C unit with the amount of heat my PC used to put out with two HD4870X2s...

SpeedyVV, I'm from Toronto as well. Well, technically from Mississauga I suppose.

samuelmorris, yes, thanks for those recommendations. That's where I generally do my price comparisons (have local presence of .com, tigerdirect and canadacomputers in Mississauga, so I generally choose the best price from those retailers...unless of course newegg.ca is offering a deal that's too good to pass up...but I generally like the instant gratification of in-person purchases). :)

I'm seeing very few HD6850 cards available (all seem to be special order), but am finding many HD6870 cards for about $20 or so more (around the $200 CAD price range) so may end up picking one of those up tonight. Thinking of picking up a reference Sapphire card, as it's the only one where I specifically read in user comments that it is generally quiet. They probably all are though, but am not finding references for that.

Hey bdgtor, there are 3 XFX 6850 in stock at the mississauga store that starts with N and see, I think ends with X. $159.99. Reasonable deal I think. And you cannot beat the XFX warranty. I think there is another brand of 6850 for $10 less, but I would still go with XFX.

Good shopping.

Thanks SpeedyVV!

I went there and picked one of the XFX 6850s up tonight. It did cost $159, but there was an additional $30 mail in rebate for it, so it ended up costing me $129. I'm definitely satisfied with the price. Going to install it as soon as time permits!

Thanks once again to everyone that helped out with my decision!

Bobby
