Video card Reccomendation

Sig rig.

Q6600 @ 2.6 GHz (Can't overclock higher, Intel DP35DP brand Mobo)
Display Res: 1680x1050.
PSU: Antec EarthWatts 500D

I'm looking for something that will dramatically improve my FPS over my 4670 512 MB.

Also, I plan on replacing the motherboard/chip/ram late next year, so something I can transition over is what I'm looking for.

I don't have a preferance between ATI / Nvidia.

I was thinking a: 5770 1 GB ($115) or a 5830 ($140).

Suggestions?

I know the cards you listed cap out at like $140 and I'm not sure if that is a hard limit, but I think by slightly raising the price you can get much better performance than the cards you're looking at.

I would try to shoot for either a nvidia 460 768mb or a amd 6850

The 460 starts at about $160 not including mail in rebates

Slightly more expensive would be the 6850 which starts at about $180


I think you'd be very happy with a 460 as it has more performance, should last you longer, and it has been an extremely popular card as far as price/performance and performance/heat output.

I can't recommend PowerColor specifically, but the price is too good. Overkill for 1680x1050 perhaps.

GTX 460 768MB.

Galaxy GTX 460 768MB GC IDK if this part of the deal is available still but there is a Visa promotion where using a Visa card gets you 10$ off too. It was available two days ago.

This is by far the best value you can get while kicking 1680 x 1050's ass.
