i got my radeon 9800pro 256mb, its the ddr2 version. ive been trying to overclock it and i have it stable at xt speeds but im very unsure on what is the proper way to overclock video cards. so correct my procedure if im wrong...

in 5mhz jumps i began overclocking just the core leaving the ram at stock speeds until i maxed out at 414mhz until i began noticing artifacting.

then, leaving the gpu overclocked speeds, i began overclocking the ram till i maxed that out at 370mhz.

ive been using radlinker to do the overclocking. am i correct in saying that ive hit the max overclock for my card? i might be able to get the ram a little faster because the stock ati heatsink are still on the ram and a corner of one heatsink has a cut in it to allow room for the origianl hsf for the gpu. i was thinking about taking off the original heatsinks but im afraid of ripping a piece of the ram off the board.

ati tool is a much better tool for overclocking imo

it will find the maxiumum stable speeds for both core and ram if you have a lot of time, but it is always high by a mhz or two

ill give that a whirl when i get home...looks a lot more intuative than radlinker.

when overclocking my 9600 pro i used the "5mhz jump, bench, so on..." method. I found the core/mem speeds i was happy with, when i found out about ATI tool i was weary about the results i'd get with it.

I got the same exact overclock using ATI tool.

I guess it just comes down to a matter of preference as to which way you would like to overclock your card
