Just wondering is there anything bad about adjusting things like brightness for my monitor via my video card settings?

I guess what i'm asking is this any different that just using the manual controls on the monitor itself. Which ones better?

My monitor buzzes at a normal brightness, stops buzzing at max brightness which is crazy so I am forced to turn in down via CCC

It is better to adjust brightness with the monitor rather than the video card.
By increasing brightness with the video card, you saturate brighter colours as each colour only has 256 brightness settings so will not get any brighter once the new maximum has been reached.
A small adjustment may be unnoticeable for most things but larger ones will show up.

If you have no choice because your monitor is too dark, c'est la vi.

You kinda need to adjust both.

Like Skakruk said, brightness on the LCD panel usually controls the brightness of the backlight. If this is set too high, it'd be like staring at a bright sun.
