Video card not found

Hi,

Up to a year ago I installed my MSI geforce 9600 gt video card on my ECS motherboard. For some reason the video card could not be found in Windows. In device manager Windows only acknowledged the onboard graphics.

After some troubleshooting, updating to latest NVIDIA driver, configure BIOS setting, still did not work. So, I gave up on it and that my 8500 gt card work as hard as it could.

Is it possible for some video cards in order to work, to install earlier versions of the NVIDIA driver rather than the latest drivers?

Unlikely: the card is currently running on an Intel Dual Core system of a friend of mine right now. I even got to play Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2 [max settings], Dragon Age Origins and even Black Ops [poorly] on it.
I know this sounds crazy, I was baffled. I tried the card on an ECS and ASUS mobo. No dice!
Yet it is running on my friends PC.

Did you try reformatting the system at the time? Or at least using driversweeper/equivalent...

I don't think so. how does one reformat the system? Reformat the entire PC you mean?
In case of driversweeping, which software do you recommend? I'll google that topic too.

driversweeper's a program (that's its name) you can run to clean out all instances of graphics drivers for you. Never used it myself but many swear by it. If I get driver issues I can't resolve I take the reformat approach. Back up any personal data on C:/ then wipe that drive and install windows fresh.
