It's been a very, very long time since i've posted on here (this is my second post since last December), so hello to everyone!

Getting right to the point, here is my problem.

I got this laptop a little over a year ago. Its been 100% amazing at everything except for the past few months its been freezing about once a week, and if the video card is OC'd then it freezes about once every 2 days. It will show a blue screen with whatever sound that was playing when it froze echoing for a while, the sound will stop, and then when i restart there will be small colored pixels, maybe 5-20 plotted in random areas on the screen ONLY ON the windows xp startup screen with the green bar moving across.

I ran some diagnostics and found that there is an error in the memory and that the video card is faulty. Well, the computer is out of warranty now, since about 3-4 weeks ago. I didnt think anything of the problem before since I was in school and could not afford to send my laptop off for 2 weeks, but now I wish I would have done something.

So... quick question. 1) If I UNDERclock the video card, should this problem occur less, and would it be a good idea?
and 2) Is there anything I can do, I know its a memory problem so it will have to be replaced eventually, but is there anything else I can do to sort of "help out" with the problem?

Video card: 7900gs 256mb
Laptop: Dell Inspiron e1705, proc. intel core 2 duo 1.83 dual core, 1 gig ram, xp media center 2005 or 2006.

So it only locks up when it's overclocked or it locks up on stock clocks as well? Underclocking can help if the hardware is failing at stock speeds. You could also try a new driver. You might want to pop open the laptop and take a look at the card and see if there is any physical damage.

Locks up on stock clocks but just not as often, at least that is how it seems :)

I will try new drivers, the ones I have are pretty old but there wasn't much support for this card when it came out so..... yeah.

you only need one antiviruse program. their fighting

I am using Sygate Professional for firewall, ESET NOD32 for AV, Winpatrol PLUS for general, and if I am scanning for malware I use AdAware and Spybot.

Also, I don't see how that could have anything to do with it, but i'm no professional on memory issues.

Alright, I searched for drivers for a GO 7900gs 256mb on Dells site, and the only driver they support is the one I have, from JUNE 2006. Im going to try a newer one from Nvidia I suppose.
