so far as i know, this is an isolated problem. i'm running the rig in my signature, and i figure this is probably the gpu heating up too much? but i was just trying to get a few more opinions here. when i encounter this problem, it's playing either doom 3 or half life 2 or even cs source. the screen basically freezes as you see below, but sometimes you can still see the outline of the last frame through the colored boxes. the sound starts to skip and eventually i have to restart my comp =\ any clues as to what may be causing this if not the heat and how to troubleshoot? my videocard oc= 420/1100, temps in windows right now are 70 gpu and 53 ambient, but that's running at 370/1100. after playing a game, i've seen the gpu temp at 76º. your thoughts?

:::EDIT:::
Temps were up to 86º when playing hl2 for 30 min.. but still way below the default threshold of 120º in coolbits :confused:

shit lol...that happened to my GeForce3.......mine was totally knocked out..i tryed it on both of my systems and it was gone really.....rma yours after u tested on your buddys machine to make sure..

i dont think its heat related though it might be try running at stock and such..

doh.. don't wanna have to deal with that rma crap! :rolleyes: anything else i can do? this sucks...

I am playing HL2 and stuff with my PNY 6800 GT at 410 and 1100 on air cooling without problems. That is with the case/motheboard temp at 60 F and the GPU core at about 53 C BEFORE I start the game. (8 inch diameter fan bringing in air from outside and blowing it into my case's window fan.) During the game my case temp may rise to 66 F and I am GUESSING my GPU core goes up to about 62 C.

I suggest clocking down the GPU in 5 Mhz intervals. Suppose you find that at 415 there are no problems. In that case I would suggest going down to 410 just to be safe.

clock it down to clock speeds. alot of ppl reported this with HL2 and D3, ocing can cause artifacts.

lolz that's 1 HUGE artifact.. :p

at least with artifacts normally i can just exit out into windows and clock lower, but this just totally freezes up my comp..
