Ok so i turn on my computer this morning and I see a flash of light like a LED through the side of my acrylic case. I look and there is a small fire burning on my Video card. It wasn't overclocked or anything, just burnt up. Can I RMA this from newegg? Its been about a year i think since i bought it.

It might be hard to see but the Ram is burnt through to the PCB and the second module has started to burn. On hte backside the voltage regulator (i think) has burnt up completely.

What card is that? Sorry I'm such a noob.

Gainward GF3 Ti200... it says in the bottom right hand corner of the second pic ;) . Sorry to see that man... call up the Egg and see if they can do anything for you. If not contact gainward directly.

nope, and I had a 80mm pointed right at it. It doesnt make a difference, temps had nothing to do with it, it fried right on start-up.

I say suck it up, tap into the bank account and get a newer card. But if the Egg wants to RMA it do that, but lol good luck unless you got a warranty for 1+ yrs.. look at the bright side.. new vcard time :) RIP ti200

gl.

I say go out the back give tha poor old girl a nice sendoff and go get your self a nice shiny new ATI (You know you wanna says the little voice in your head lmfao:p )

But seriously i would at least try an RMA it cant hurt.;)

So sad, those are great little cards. I still have one running my second system.

Since you got it about a year ago, it likely wasn't brand new, so I doubt newegg will take an RMA on it. Now you have a reason to get a kickass new FX 5900. I actually went from the Gainward ti200 GS to my 5900nu, and it was quite a huge improvement.

I would definately contact Gainward and leave Newegg out of the loop as you would not be able to RMA after this long anyway...usually you only go to the vendor who sold you the product if it is with in 30 days or so and then they say to contact the mfg for any warranty type work and this would deffinately fall under warranty....and even if you are out of the warranty period ask them what they are going to do for you...you never know..they might give you a new card :D

Exactly, go straight to the source.

Sorry to hear the bad news dude, I've got a Ti200 in my 'rents computer and it's great.....RIP. :(

i just bought a new mobo and case...and rents due this week. Ouch, I havent used a PCI video card in years. Ironic to have a 2.2ghz athlonXP and no AGP video. :(

Not ironic.....just horrible, horrible timing. ;) :D

Fyi, you should have sprayed the inside of your case more often with an Air Duster of some sort. After looking at the pics, the dust had settled on that card blanketing it, causing some major heat issue. That will lead to overheating. And yes, it looks very dirty from those pics. You might be screwed for not taking better care of it. If you do send it back, Clean it up so they don't use that against you.

Good advise.....they probly wouldn't take to kindly to getting back a card that had been completely neglected for the last three years. ;)

yeah go to the source, I'm no expert but does an acylic case have anything to do with it? I heard they aren't grounded. o_O

Except then you'd expect that a whole lot more then the video card would have gone up in flames.

It really is not that dusty, the flash just highlights it, and the dust that is there is because of a high cfm 80mm fan pointing directly at the GPU and memory. Overheating is not possible, the card was not overclocked, i doubt if the memory (the things that actually burned) where even above amibent any significant amount.

Actually, memory gets really, really hot. If your voltage regulator fried, and put more voltage into the memory, it's no wonder they caught on fire.

The memory, under normal operation, only emits a few watts certainly not enough to combust itself simply due to a light layer of dust. My point was that the card didn't overheat and catch fire due to insufficient cooling. Due to the burned out voltage regulator on the back side of the card this is pretty clearly what cased the meltdown.

I spose you didn't get this whole thing on video did ya??? ;) :p

haha that's funny my card died too, but not in such a painful way.
mine just fried from the inside out, it just quit drawing polys not burning to a crisp
