i forgot to plug in the additional floppy connector on my Radeon 9500, and the red heatsink on the back of the card(closest to the VGA output) was smoking. Then I plugged the floppy connector in, and video output is all messed up. I was wondering if there is any savage value out of that card? Did I burn up the analog out portion of the Radeon, or is the card totally gone?

Sad day for me for sure.

Didnt you get the red warning when you turned on your rig after forgetting to put the power connector to your 9500?......Mine always does that each time i forget to plug the power to my 9800 pro.........

if it smoked then its gone........

All eletrical devices are packed with a puff of smoke to tell you when they are DEAD....=)

Sorry to hear man, lucky that you caught it in time and hope it didnt ruin any other components in your system.

Its kinda weird that it went like that, most of the time the puter will pop up a screen telling you to plug the power into the card. Sorry to hear about the bad luck, best bet would be to RMA the card to ATI and hope for the best.

Wait, I'm confused here.

I thought even if the video card was put into the agp slot and not hooked up to the power connector, wouldn't the computer just turn on and have no video from the monitor?

So if I put a 9800 pro into my agp slot without hooking up the power connector, my video card would go poof?

Heh, I don't know much about video card's with power connectors as I have owned a geforce 2 for a long time. Recently upgraded to a 9800 Pro.
