I am in the process of getting a Dell u2711 monitor and I am looking for a single card solution for playing World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 when it comes out. Any guidance is appreciated. Could do a two card solution if the price is right. Budget is $300 max.

Current rig is...
E8600 on DFI LP DK X48-T2RSB PLUS LGA 775 Intel X48
Ati 4870 1GB
8GB ram
Vista x64

What motherboard are you using as this is important as to whether or not you can go SLI being that your on a socket 775 board

If I recall correctly, only Nvidia 775 motherboards can ruan dual nvidia cards in SLI. Since you have an intel based motherboard on the socket 775 you can run dual ati cards though. Your best performance for under $300 would be a gtx 470 video card, however the best bang for your buck would be a 1gb gtx 460 video card which can be had for around $175 if not cheaper.

The 460 will easily play all games at mid graphics on your higher resolution monitor, while some games will allow all settings cranked up. The 470 main benefit over the 460 is the additional memory which is helpful when gaming on your higher resolution 27" screen.

A good overclocked 1gb gtx 460 performs at the same level as a stock clocked gtx 470 but takes a hit at higher resolution because of less ram.

With a budget of $300, I'd buy a gtx 470 and overclock it a good deal which will put in on par with almost a gtx 480.
