Does anyone know the story on how demanding the SW:TOR beta currently is? There seems to be quite a bit of talk about BF3 right now; but I believe a good number of folks will be playing TOR, as well and would be interested to hear recommendations on suitable hardware adequately play the game. I'd really like to hear from anyone who's been playing the beta for a breakdown on how the games performs (especially with more mid-level hardware - GTX 470, 560Ti, etc...).

I'm currently rocking a GTX 280 and a Q6600 at 3.0Ghz. I'm looking to upgrade somewhat soon, but I am not in dire need as I am not an FPS-heavy gamer. I figured SW: TOR would be a good litmus test seeing as it is a new game, yet doesn't require extremely high framerates in order to be enjoyable.

If anyone has any experience how how the game performs, please post and share your experience!

its an mmo made for a wide range of systems.

you are going to find your performance relies more on your cpu than the gpu, and also server side is going to matter quite a bit on how performance is for example being in too heavily populated of an area will strain the server and cause you to lag reguardless of your pc specs.

anything 6870 and up will be more than capable of running the game maxed at 30-80fps+ with 8x aa and shadows on only time youll drop below that is if the area you are in is crippled with too many players for the server to handle.

It won't be anything like B3's requirements :) Here's SWTORS official system requirements:

Processor:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or better
Operating System:
Windows XP or later

RAM:

Windows XP: 1.5GB RAM
Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB RAM

Note: PCs using a built-in graphical chipset are recommended to have 2GB of RAM.

Star Wars: The Old Republic requires a video card that has a minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM as well as support for Shader 3.0 or better. Examples include:

ATI X1800 or better
nVidia 7800 or better
Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better

DVD-ROM drive – 8x speed or better (required for installation from physical editions only) Internet connection required to play

Look up benchmarks for various video cards for Wow: Cataclysm. Sw:TOR and Wow Cataclysm minimum/recommended specs are pretty much the same. If you buy a video card that performs in wow at the settings you desire based of current benchmarks, you should be able to run sw:tor with those settings too. Once Sw:tor drivers are optimized, any performance-bugs related to beta are removed and what-not.

The game, despite really cool trailers, is not that graphically intensive.
