I'm looking for a video card for my HTPC.
I play games *very* rarely but would like some gaming horsepower if needed.
Mainly though I need something with HDMI out with sound and something that can handle Blu-ray just fine (I know most can...).
My motherboard does not have an SPDIF header.
I'm looking at spending around $100 although I can spend more or less.
Prefer NVIDIA but I really just want what's best.

You should be fine with any ATi card in the 4xxx series. The HD4350 should work great for you.

What are your thoughts on the ATI 4850? There's on in the FS thread with DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort and he's only asking $70 shipped.

Sweet deal though...

I would get the new 240 chip for the cuda accelerated H264.

is 109 bucks though if you don't have a software player yet you will have more expenses since for the most there really are only two ways to go.

Buy a player like cyberlink 7.3 (may come bundled with your drive) or 9 or arcsoft tru theater 3<sp?> or you other option is find software to read the structure of the disc and then down load http://www.cccp-project.net/ and media player classic home cinema. Of course if you have everything but the videocard there are plenty of good choices.

If the GT 240 is too expensive then get a GT 220. Has 7.1 over HDMI, can be had in Low Profile for short HTPC cases.

And it does have enough horsepower for gaming with low candy factor.
