Hello. The fan on my video card is shelled out. I tried the "pull-the-sticker-off-the-fan-and-squirt-lube-into-it" trick three times now and it goes back to barely spinning at all and then stopping after about a day. So, anyway, I needs me a new fan for this beast of a video card, see sig.
The interior of my case is too cramped to mount one of those VGA Silencer HSF fan dealies so I have decided to do a little ghetto fan modding with some stuff I have laying around. Here is a pic of the card, look at the bottom of the picture: http://www.free-image-hosting.org/pic.php?pic=6/17123290769.jpg
So I'm digging around through all of the spare crap I've accumulated over the years and I spot the retail Intel HSF that I never used on a build I did a while ago. It looks like a good candidate to me so I pull it off the heat sink and have a look: http://www.free-image-hosting.org/pic.php?pic=6/17200242711.jpg
Now, how do I mount it? I'm thinking about just wrapping big rubber bands or zip ties around the card and the fan to keep it in place but I'm not sure how safe that would be. I don't think they would melt because they wouldn't be touching anything hot, unless the back of the card gets hot that is. Another thought I had was to super glue the edges of the fan frame to the edges of the ram sinks. Anybody know if that's a bad idea? Does super glue melt when it heats up?
Those are just the thoughts that I have. I know its really ghetto but it is just meant to be a short-term fix until I can buy something better. Maybe I'll get one of those Vantec fan cards or something.
Your insight would be greatly appreciated.
